Frequently Asked Questions
What stage is FeedSalon at?
A very early first version. Please report any bugs to feedsalon @ gmail.com, and thanks for your patience!
Doesn't this already exist?
Feeds can be piped, tumbled, or souped together, and there are many RSS re-mixers. None of them have the features, simplicity, flexibility, and stability that some are looking for, therefore FeedSalon.
I have a feature request
Common ones:
- My own domain - You can have your FeedSalon hosted at your own domain, but this isn't automated yet, please email feedsalon @ gmail.com for details.
- Friends list/page - Put all your friends' FeedSalons into an RSS reader to get this kind of view.
- Let me enter my https/passworded/private feeds - Maybe someday, but FeedSalon is targetted at combining your publically available feeds.
- Pings - Almost done, for now just wait ~60 minutes and your changes will definitely be picked up.
There's a longer vague todo list, send further requests to feedsalon @ gmail.com and maybe it will be added. One great thing about RSS feeds is they're very chainable- you can probably find another service that can go either before or after FeedSalon to give you what you're looking for.
What is the site built in?
In rough order of lines of code: Javascript, Python, Ruby, Apache Rewrite Rules.
What are the terms of service
Until specific terms can be written up, these terms of service hereby apply to FeedSalon.
What does FeedSalon cost, now and in the future? How will you make money?
FeedSalon is completely free, and probably always will be. Advertising may be added if traffic costs become an issue. No other monetization plans currently exist, but if you'd be interested in donating, funding feature development, or advertising on the site, contact feedsalon @ gmail.com.
What is your privacy policy?

This privacy policy will be reviewed, and may be revised, from time to time. You may wish to revisit it regularly.

The IP address you use to create and edit this information will not be publically published, but will be collected (see Private Logging, below)
Private Logging
Any time you visit a page on the internet, you send quite a bit of information to the server. The webservers that host this site maintain access logs with the information that you send. This information is used to provide site statistics and to get an idea of popular pages and what sites link here. We do not intend to use these logs to identify legitimate users.
The data logged may be used by us to solve technical problems with the site and, in cases of abuse of this site, to investigate the abuse.
If you are concerned about attempts to match your IP address to your identity, you may wish to use an anonymous browsing service or attempt some means to obfuscate your real IP address.
If so, you might like to try Tor, an anonymous browsing service. Please see http://tor.eff.org/ for more details.
Data release policy
Our policy is to only release the data we collect in the following circumstances:
- As required by law, such as in response to a valid request from law enforcement.
- To designated third parties to resolve or investigate abuse complaints.
- When the information is related to spiders or bots, usually when investigating technical issues.
- For abusive users, we may release information to assist in attempting to block the abusive user or to complain to that user's Internet Service Provider.
- If necessary to defend legal claims against us by third parties.
- When we deem it necessary to protect the property or rights of the user community, or this website.
No selling of information
We will not sell information collected via this site, such as your email address, to third parties.
Information security
We make no guarantee that the information that you provide us will be secure.
You may choose to give your email address when setting a password, in order to later recover that password.
If you are concerned, you may wish to get a free email account or attempt to use a remail service.
